Immanuel's Special Missionary

Mission Moment from Guatemala

Gloria Vicente
(last email from Gloria)

Greetings to you from our new home in Totonicapan. I know you sent previous emails and while my intention was to respond to each one, I figured I will just respond now so we can get caught up. Thanks Brock to you and all at Immanuel who has kept our family in your prayers. God only knows that we have needed people to keep us in your prayers since these last months have been rather challenging in so many ways.

First, our family's health and the continuing fear and care for Nicolas since it is evident that he has asthma or, at least not diagnosed, since he is too young but has all the symptoms. So we are extra careful with him although our new house is a little hard to be 100% clear of dangers since we are repairing it here and there. BUT we know for sure that the main culprit was all the mold and dampness in our old home and since we dont have that here in our new home, he seems to be breathing strong. Our Ixbalanke will be 1 year old on November 2nd! She is crawling and standing and wanting to walk but not walking yet.

Now the other thing to share is that our ministry will end this year and we still have yet to find out if we have a renewal in Guatemala and for how long. This makes me a little nervous not knowing especially since we are at less than three months.

The one thing I know is that I will probably not want to renew at the current partner where we are serving since it has turned out to be a very challenging experience there especially for me because I have been discriminated and scrutinized for the work I do by the male leadership there. I am also not the only woman that has experienced this but local women as well.

Despite the challenges I continue to struggle and to keep it together in these last months. The other concern for our family is the future for Guatemala since it looks like the new government to take office in jJanuary will be one of a military mindset and one aligned with the parallel powers that rule the country (i.e. drug traffickers).

I will have a better idea as to the future of the ministry in Guatemala and of our own ministry as a family in Guatemala by the end of October, I hope. So I will try to send more updates on that as the days progress.

Thank you again to you and all at Immanuel who have accompanied our family at all times. As I shared before and I will share again, I have never felt a sense of church community and support like I have received from Immanuel and for that I thank God for having put us in the same path.

Many blessings to all,
Gloria, Santos, Ixbalanke and Nicolas
